Citrus County Stonecrab Jamboree

With proceeds going to the local Rotary charitable funds,  our second annual Stone Crab Jam was a huge success. Many of you may have seen the article and picture in the Citrus County Chronicle where the club presented the city with a check for $35,000 for the Save 3 Sisters Springs Foundation last year.

Over 5,000 people attended the first Jam and from my perspective, I would say that attendance doubled this year. My hats off to those hard working volunteers who were still manning the entrance gates well into the night.   Entertainment filled the balmy night air with the sounds of such local bands as the four piece blues group The Accelerators and reggae music by El Matamuga.  Tammy Hatch was there with her familiar 60's Rock & Roll along with country by Southern Branded and many danced the night away to the four piece dance/rock sounds of Broken Silence and Rock Steady.

Did I mention the food?  Of course stonecrab was in abundance along with
gyros, shishkabobs and kettle korn and much more.   Many local artists were on hand to offer their creations.  I was most impressed with their use of the crustation in honoring the theme of the evening.

There was lots of stone crab jewelry and wind chimes and refrigerator magnets and just fantastic photography and art work depicting the stone crab industry.   If you have never eaten the sweet meat of the stone crab, you have surely missed out on one of natures tastiest.

As you can see, my hand is still in a cast but I sure couldn't let that keep me from getting out for a Citrus County Experience.

Thanks for coming along and remember to check out Jan's Highland Guesthouse for your Citrus County accommodations.

See you next week for another Citrus County Experience.
